How is overtime pay calculated?
Multiply the regular hourly wage by the overtime multiplier to find the overtime hourly rate. Then multiply that rate by overtime hours and add regular earnings.
What does time-and-a-half mean?
Time-and-a-half is a 1.5× multiplier. A $20 hourly wage becomes $30 per overtime hour.
What does double time mean?
Double time is a 2× multiplier. A $20 hourly wage becomes $40 per overtime hour.
Example overtime calculation
At $20 per hour, 40 regular hours earn $800. Five overtime hours at 1.5× earn $150, for $950 total gross pay.
Regular pay vs overtime pay
Regular pay uses the normal hourly rate. Overtime pay uses the selected multiplier for eligible overtime hours.
