How does image compression work?
Compression stores image information more efficiently. JPG and WebP can trade a controlled amount of visual detail for smaller files. PNG normally uses lossless compression, so its behavior is different.

Are my images uploaded?

Is image metadata preserved?
Not necessarily. Browser re-encoding commonly removes EXIF, camera, location, and other metadata. Pixel dimensions and visible orientation are preserved where browser decoding supports them.
Why did my compressed image become larger?
The original may already be efficiently compressed, or the chosen format may need more data for the same image. The tool reports larger outputs honestly so you can keep the original instead.
